the "new" apt. / the big move
July 24, 2003 - 7:09 pm

well, last week, after the wedding, i started to work on the apartment. stripping wallpaper takes time. and this apt. had the full treatment. kitchen, hallway, bedroom etc. and usually when a room is wallpapered it means that 1. the people are freaks and "love" wallpaper. 2. the walls behind it are in pretty bad shape. i found out it was the latter. (and plus this wallpaper was anywhere from 20 to 50 years old. brown, orange & yellow wallpaper? with brown being the main colour? chocolate brown? gross! anyway. i stripped. i patched. i conquered. and i also painted. with the help of my dear sweet kitten. truth? she basically painted the bedroom by herself. and as of yesterday i painted the living room. so no more ugly wallpaper. and goodbye sickening peach paint from the 50's. now i like the retro look, but you can only go so far before you start to puke. or hallucinate. so white it is. for now. and i'm almost finished. on monday i'll be texturing the ceiling. why? because it's falling down. and because some idiot decided it would be easier gluing styrofoam panels up instead of fixing it right the first time. but what ever reason, i 'm sure it was a good one.

after most of the work was done. new windows put in. new floors for the kitchen & bathroom. stove and fridge put in their rightful place. sink installed in the bathroom. tiles around the tub. hardwood floors refinished. i could finally move in. and plus all of the work i did. there is still a lot to do but, it will be done next week. so we moved in. court, my brother & i started around 1-2 pm on sat. and finished around 8-ish. it was a light move by anyones standards. and i'm sure when i move out it will be that much more painstaking. and a lot more organized. so two van & car loads later, and an episode on the q.e.w. that had the matress police on our tail. (we had to stop to re-tie it) we were done.

we all went out for dinner afterwards and kind of relaxed. the next day was pretty realxing too, untill we returned my moms van. and found out she had been in an accident with courts car. we had switched cars so we could use the van. and my mom needed something to get to work in. i should have lent her my car. because it already has a dent in that side. plus it's the last thing court needs. i could tell she was quite upset. i would be too. hopefully soon she will get it fixed. and i guess it could have been worse. she could have been stranded in canadaland with a crunched up car. that was on sunday. luckily no one was hurt. and because it happened in front of the stoney creek(east end) police station, there were no accusations. one of the officers looking out the window saw what went on. so what the hell did happen? well, this guy from ohio decided to back up trying to get out of the station that he mistakenly drove into in the first place. no need to look in his mirrors or what have you. ignore the honking horn behind you because that's how we drive in ohio. it boggles the mond how this man got his license. really it does.

so with court driving away on sunday night. i unpacked for a bit. cleaned for a bit and settled into my "new" place. when things are organized the way i like them i'll be happy and at peace. it takes me a while to get used to things. but i'm sure it won't be long.
