a job is a job

today i was informally hired at starbucks. on monday i guess it'll be formal. i also had my "third" interview at whole foods, so i guess i might be hired there too. we shall wait. so back to the place called starbucks. i have officially ended my personal boycott. which only lasted 1-1/2 years. all because they were out of their seasonal drink. hey, what are you gonna do? i wasn't too serious about it anyway, it was more of a "getting my point across". i do hope it works out for a while. and hey, it'll will be fun( i hope) and i'll be on a permanent caffiene buzz. yum!

this marks the longest stretch since i was a teenager that i've been without work. even part-time. four mnoths without work is a strain. on court, me & all of my creditors. even when i was in banff 14 years ago with chris, we managed to find work quickly. it did seem like forever. so, two months here and one month there. but i've been through some trying times. now that i think back , maybe this isn't the record. i do recall oct. 1990 to march 1991, when i was in calgary, when i wasn't working. oh well, those were some dark days back then. but i was young and stupid. the moral of the story is figure out what you want to do with your life(or follow your dreams kind of thing) and go to school and get a good job, blah, blah, blah. or do what i did and have so many good times while scraping the seat of your pants and now you can only remember half of those good times, whole deciding to go back to school when you're in your late twenties and then bumming around your old job and mooching off your mother and wife untill it all works out.

court and i came back from the farm yesterday. tired, smelly and sunburnt. even kitty had a vacation at courts grandparents house. we stayed with courts dads place friday night. then court, her dad and his wife chris and i drove up on saturday morning. at 6am! i hardly slept at all that night, we both had terrible sleeps that night. we made good time and got to wharton around 10am. the road to the farmhouse was trecherous. you can only go about 5mph, or risk serious damage to your tires or suspension. it is very peaceful up there. it's actually called "god's country" more like "hunters country" cause of all the hunting camps up there. and between us and the other people, there was a compition on who could make the most noise with some firearms. as soon as we walked in the house it smelt like moth balls. a truly horrifying smell. and the water is 50% iron, so that smells too. but hey, the moth balls keep the mice away. the house is about a hundred years old and has quite a bit of junk in it. not as much as i thought, but a fair bit. as soon as we got there, court and i went down to the creek for a swim. it was more of a walk in the creek. it was very low and cold but you warmed up the longer you stayed in. the afternoon went slowly and by that time casey and kenny showed up. before and after dinner mr. c got out the gun powder and fireworks and started the three hour show, which included firing cobs of corn out of a home made cannon. again we were competing with the neighbours for bragging rights. we had a campfire going and roasted the usual;m.m's . got to see the stars, so that was cool. the next day we went to se the austin town dam that broke in 1911 because of shoddy construction. i hear a lot of dams broke in those days because , well, i suppose they didn't know what the hell they were doing. it rained all sunday night, so we didnt have a campfire. plus everyone bolted at 3pm because i guess they were bored, abd there was no shower in the house. just an old claw foot tub. so court and i read old national geographics and reader's digest magazines and had a quiet night. yesterday courts uncles came unexpectedly to do some work at the house and this hastened our exit. we stopped for lunch in dubois. and for a moment, thought about going to the groundhog festival in punxsatany, but i think we just wanted to get home. plus it was dumb. everything there is groundhog this and groundhog that. wacky. we got into apollo about 3:30 and went to pick up miss kitty, who didn't want to leave grandmas house. then endured a half hour of meowing (but no puking) the rest of the way home. and that was alright.
