diaryland

"golden girl"
October 28, 2003 - 8:25 pm

today's diary refers to my amazing girl(i don't think i'll ever get used to calling her my fiancee) who paid for my gold diaryland membership for my birthday.(it's in 2 days) it was very thoughtful. and court enjoys these entries so ...i'll get to keep writing them for another year.

tonight while putting away the dishes i dropped a plastic bowl(a heavy one) on my right toe. now, if anyone seen this happen, they'd think someone had severed my calcaneus tendon the way i crumpled to the floor screaming and rolling around. well, it hurt like hell! drop something on your toe and see what happens, then laugh. i'm sure my brother had a good laugh though, because when someone else gets hurt or falls, it's funny. it's natural reaction and the basis of some great comedy.

speaking of comedy, there are protesters in hamtown. if you know anything about the saga of the red hill expressway you'll understand. now when ever i see someone chained to a tree i think of two very funny simpsons episodes; the first is when lisa meets that dreamboat jesse the environmentalist and camps out in the redwood to stop the deforestation. and of course when homer becomes "max power" and is unknowingly forced into chaining himself up to giant redwoods, eventually destroying the whole forest. so what was my point? oh, that those episodes ended with a tree(s) being felled. the funny part of this red hill valley is that these aren't even "real" protesters. they got there before the workers arrived(to chop some trees down) and then after they left, the protesters left. now, i know no one wants to get arrested. and no one really wants the trees chopped down and maybe i don't know enough about the environmental consquences of this expressway, but this "debate" over this expressway has been going on for 45+ years. and we can argue all day about what if this and what if that. answer me this: did anyone care about the red hill valley in the late 70's and early 80's when it was used as a garbage dump for people too lazy to take their garbage to kenora av.? i used to play in the valley and me and firends would stumble over rusted shopping carts and tires and dead fish etc. every day. if i'm missing the point please tell me. whether it's next year or the next ten years, the tax payer is going to foot some horrendous bill for some sort of expressway sometime, somewhere. believe it.

and to end on a much lighter note, i took ten pictures of the family of cats today and if i'm smart enough i'll be able to post them some time in the future. i actually got close enough to one and it let me pet it for awhile. i think it recently had kittens because there wer four new ones i hadn't seen before. they are pretty darn fluffy. unfortunately, i don't think i got any picture of those kittens, just "mama".
