clock adjustment insanity
October 25, 2003 - 6:19 pm

it is a little insane. setting the 15+ clocks in and around our house. i wish i didn't have to depend so much on time. and having all of these gadgits and appliances that have clocks in them. it's a eerie feeling the first night after you set the clocks back. then it's hallowe'en, then christmas is rammed unmercifully down our throats. eerie indeed. i mention all of this because i'm the one who is the "clock setter" around here. i always forget how to set the clock on my car stereo, even though i've had it for ten years. they really should make it easier. or i should have learned to do it without the manual.

last night i went out with my brother to meet rich and his girlfriend at absinthe. it used to be the old hudson and back a few years ago it was a cool place to hang out. i saw some live gigs there as well, mostly local bands. i couldn't quite tell what was missing, furniture or people. it was a friday night yet there was only about 12 people inside. it was lame. before we left(kev & i), we decided to check out the downstairs. the solitary pool table was occupied and the sofas and chairs were fashionably uncomfortable. our next stop was star lounge(the old bauhaus cafe). and let me tell you they shouldn't have changed it. there is no tradition or loyalty to small clubs or cafes anymore. and whatever they did to it was just criminal. i'm glad i don't make a habit of going out every weekend either. $12 bucks for two beers? first of all when the "bartender" gave me my drinks, she said $9.50. then two seconds later she says, "oh, i forgot we raised the price." well, fuck you, i've never coming back to this dump!

seriously if you want customers, don't pull that shit on them. plus, i'm sure the jr. mafia will give you all the patronage you want.(which they were in attendance at the bar) i really don't know what is happening to hamtowns night life. ever since the raven closed two years ago(r.i.p.) the n.l. has bascially gone way down hill. we were bemoaning the fact that there isn't a proper place to lounge and eat, that's cheap and cool anymore. if i had money to burn and time to invest i'd get right on it. but it's the people as well, and i'm as lame as the next person, so i shouldn't complain too much.
