go into the light
May 01, 2003 - 8:53 pm

you hear amazing stories about people dying and slowly being brought towards a fantastically bright light, joining their loved ones in heaven for a few mortal seconds. well, it sort of happened to me today. except i didnt die. and i wasnt magically pulled in, i drove into it. and it wasnt heaven, it was St. Catherines. it all happened on the way to work this morning, as i drove through at least five different weather systems in the space of 3o minutes. and if you say puh, that happens to me all the time, well good. i dont get out that much. it was pretty darn cool, though, so let me tell ya about it. it was teeming down rain in ol hamtown around 8 this morning, traffic was light. my new windshield wipers were getting tested for the first time. they passed. (they are the same ones i put on courts car for her easter gift). on the hwy it was even lighter than the morning rush. then going to Niagara is a piece of cake, really. rain kept pouring down. i made it to around Grimsby when it changed into a torrential downpour. tractor trailers were weaving in and out of the fast lane. thunder here. Lightening there. my wipers were going as fast as they could. it was literally white-knuckle time. then it stopped. like exiting a car wash, you come out of the building dry as a bone. thats when i noticed the eastern horizon, it was quite, well, heavenly. i dont know what else to call it. since it was still storming behind us, and right in front of us, there were clouds piled on top of clouds, letting in strange particles of light. like a massive fluorescent light behind huge charcoal satiny curtains. at one point the clouds took on an ink blot/spill quality. all the while my eyes were as wide as could be. the lightning was making me see things because it was flashing only in my rear-view mirror. the downpour had shrunk into a sprinkle. it was quite a ride. by the time i made it to st. kitts, the sky had eerily gotten brighter without showing blue sky.(like someone pulled the curtains away) and then as i came down the garden city skyway, all of my windows instantly fogged up. i had hit really humid air. then around the corner was. blue sky. not that it hadnt rained in the falls at all. it was thundering all night. so i opened my window on the exit ramp and marvelled at an exciting journey to work. fun!

and one more thing about the thunder storm we had last night(and this morning). i was jolted out of bed at 5am by three of the biggest, loudest bangs i think i have ever heard. they echoed off the escarpment like artillery cannons going off. you know i dont mind thunder, but i think there is a limit to its loudness. and waking me up. but at least i know if the earth is caving in all around us, ill have time to put on my jammies.

and in other not so notable goings on. chutney was in her fort this morning, looking cute! i have dubbed it the chut hut

i am going to see my girl tomorrow. has it been twelve days??? if i get there on friday at 6pm it will be exactly(and i mean exactly) 12 days. seems longer. its getting to that point where im really missing her. but then i miss her mere hours after she(or i) leaves. the terror alert is down to yellow, so that means they wont search my trunk. and if they do and say something about all of the candy i have in my trunk, at least i can bribe them with it. maybe. court, if you read this and ask, all of the candy? dont. and if you read this on friday, itll be too late. bwa-ha-ha! seriously, it always seems like forever when we havent seen one another in more than a week, but then afterwards. its like we never left each other. thats something.

so our plans this weekend are to plant some flowers, see a movie, gorge on snacks, try and stay out of kittys way(thats courts cat) and sleep in for a couple of days. and as usual, i cannot wait!

oh, and easter candy is 75% off. thats almost free. Canadian easter candy! which one of these days i will do extensive research on us/Canadian candy relations(that includes pop, or soda too)

and today our measly dollar hit the 70 cent mark against the us greenback. poo! wish i had known that a few days ago. dollars goin up , gas is going down. i like it.

well, its almost nine, i havent packed a damn thing(although, it wont take long) and i need a drink. i better get going. til monday
