the things i'll miss about canada
September 26, 2003 - 9:14 pm

well, this is it. i'm leaving canadaland. after 30-someodd years of the great white north, it comes down to love, distance and the uncertainty of your own job. now i didn't spend 20,000 on my education to make what i was at some crappy retail store job that i had before. then i wouldn't have gone back to school now? and so love is reason number one. of course, i don't think we could have lasted much longer. all of the time, the travel. and of course, not wanting to say good-bye. the expense wasn't that bad, although the exchange rate this past winter sucked. i do what i have to, to survive and be happy. if it means leaving my homeland, no big deal. canada isn't what it used to be. are we the best country in the world? maybe in 1996....

i'm really not canada-bashing, i do love certain parts of this land, some of the people - not all(most of the hellions are on the qew), and i have a love/hate relationship with the weather...(mostly hate), so without further adieu - here are the things i'll miss about canada:

of course in no particular order...

tim hortons coffee: it got me through many a cold winter(like the ads on tv)

certain aspects of the metric system: mainly C and kms, converting everything else will be a royal pain

our money: it might be only worth 74cents but it sure is colourful and shiny(i.e. loonies)

canadian tire: yup, i always leaf through the flyer every friday...

our kick-ass liquor and beer stores: even though my drinking has declined it's nice to go into a store that looks like a brand new candy store but it sells 1000 different kinds of booze.

ah, moosehead beer: still my fav. after ten years. (moosehead light?, pah!)

algonquin park: goes together well with canoes and the above brand of beer. (please don't drink & canoe)

queen st. in t.o.: it's right up there with chinatown, the absolute coolest street in the world.

dalinas in hamilton: after court and i ate there in the summer we just about died. possibly the best kept secret in all of ontario. we will be back!

saturday night hockey games: of course winter wouldn't be winter without a game blaring in the background, but hey we move on...

and last but not least, family , friends and cats that i love: i hope i was able to say good-bye to everyone who matters...and if a missed ya i still keep in touch, (maybe)
