pete yorn - pete yorn = grandaddy
May 08, 2003 - 9:57 pm

i was almost going to let another week slip by without putting my thoughts to the screen. there are my two biggest fans that i can't disappoint.

through sickness or health, i will go see a show! ok, i've copped out of a lot of them, but i really had a stomach ache. i was half & half last night at the guvernment to see grandaddy. last show i saw there? (not including the "kool haus") must have been peter murphy in '90. ok, i'll get to my shabby review of some shabby bands. no, we did not stick around to see pete yorn. who is this guy? and yes, we endured the horrid opening band called rooney. it would have been better if mickey rooney did get up on stage and tap dance for 30 mins. they looked like rejects from the sixties. sounded like the seventies. maybe they can use their cut of the gig to get some decent haircuts! ug! i mean these guys must have just finished the prom dance circuit, to quote aaron. yep, their songs sounded like a bad 70's prom band. forgettable. not now, but i will forget. now grandaddy, love 'em or hate 'em, at least had some trippin' visuals to go along with their trippin' tunes. if i was on acid, i probably would have ran out of the gig screaming. that's a compliment. very weird & captivating. they did some crowd favs and five new songs from their upcoming disc.(june 10) and hey, they sound different. it not like the regular crap that's out there. download and see. aaron was saying as well, "i feel bad going to see them and i haven't even bought any of their albums. i have 70 songs i burned off the net." now, is that bad. a band you didn't know of five years ago, and you may have read a review or heard a minute or two of a song. and all of that and you paid $30 bucks to go see them? that fuckin' rocks! since normal radio is crap these days(cfny) and college radio is unpredictable, it's up to you to search out these bands, download their music and go see them live. well it makes sense to me. i noticed a few of the cooler kids sneaking out when we did. we left after g.d.'s set. will i ever get to hear a pete yorn song? do i fucking care? wasn't he ryan adams last year?

i'm leaving to see court tomorrow. this week was long & painful. the longest five days in recent memory. busy. and i was weak too. today is the first day since sunday that i feel normal. i am going to try this concoction one of my patients told me about. squeeze two limes(or limons, as he says) and hot water and drink before bed. add 1 and a half ounces of gin....ha ha ha ha...my mom says it just clears up your lungs. i was hoping it will clear up my head. i should be 80 % tomorrow. just in time too. cause my kitten is feeling better now, so we don't need lingering colds to ruin our weekend. on to cleveland with amy! we are going to the rock and roll hall of fame on saturday. see you there!
